The Training Checklist
Here is one of the sample
training checklists that we use in class. The specific rules for building training checklists
are covered in depth during the Tools and Techniques of OJT Training class. The importance of a properly written checklist can not be emphasized enough. The Training checklist is the bedrock on which the whole system is based and as such deserves some importance. In some systems, the training checklist will make the difference between a successful OJT implementation and a possible failure. In the years that I have been advising companies on OJT, I have never seen a system succeed without properly written checklists. During class, we review and critique several other checklists so that basic checklist concepts are adequately understood. In this example checklist, the basic areas are the demographic area for employee and trainer information at the top, the skills area in the middle, and the signature area at the bottom. Many
checklists combine the demographic and signature areas, while others add
additional information necessary for certification or other licensing
requirements. As for the skills section, the design is a combination of
art and science. The way the tasks are described can make the difference
between an easy to use trainer aid and a form that in actuality is an
impediment to good training. We encourage out students to bring samples
of their checklists with them to class for review and critiquing.
We would be happy to consult with you , review your checklists and make some suggestions, if necessary. For more information, or to just discuss checklists, give us a call or an e-mail.
